If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen my post that on Monday April 13, 2020, the self-employed and independent contractors could FINALLY apply for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA). (See this blog post for more about what PUA is and who may qualify for PUA).
The frustration I felt when I went to the application site today to start finding out what information applicants should have ready, only to find out that NOW the website is back to stating PUA applications are NOT OPEN (again), is likely similar to many of you. The website is now saying the week of April 21, 2020, is when PUA applications will be accepted. I highly recommend you bookmark this website and this page to keep checking.
No word yet on what will happen to those who snuck an application in between Monday and Wednesday (or maybe even Tuesday?) If this is you, I would appreciate it if you would drop me an email with the subject line “PUA App Accepted.” I’d love to hear your experience and see if we can all learn from this and help others.
